Grapplers gear up for Divisional tourney this week

The Columbia Falls wrestling team competed at the Whitefish duals Friday, the last meet before the postseason begins this Saturday with the Western A divisional tourney in Frenchtown.

Barring illness, the MatCats should have wrestlers in every weight class heading into the tourney. More than a few schools can’t fill a full wrestling roster anymore, as fewer and fewer boys have gone out for the sport in the past few years.

Columbia Falls doesn’t have that problem. Some weight classes are two and three wrestlers deep.

The Cats will look for good things from the likes of Justin Windauer (138), Dylan DeLorme (120), Rowdy Crump (145), Josh Price (205), Logan Speed (285), Trey Torpen (160) and Winslow Peter (113) just to name a few.

Windauer is one of the top wrestlers in the state and has a good shot at a state title in his weight class.

He wrestled up a weight at the Whitefish Duals, so he could take on Thompson Falls’ Trae Thilmony at 145. The match would have gone into overtime, but Windauer lost a point on a false start, which proved to be the difference as he was edged in a 9-8 decision, one of the few losses all season.

The MatCats won the dual, however, 48-27.

Jaxson Sterling (103) and DeLorme marked wins in the dual.
