The Columbia Falls boys basketball team split last week, dropping Bigfork 49-28, but losing to conference rival Polson, 58-47.

Jace hill led the Wildcats with 14 apiece in both games.

Against Bigfork, the Cats held the Vikings to just 14 points in each half.

The Cats had 11 steals and 31 rebounds in the win.

Against The Pirates, the Cats were up by four at the break, but Polson outscored them 21-9 in the third quarter and the Cats never recovered.

The Cats had 21 turnovers in the loss, which didn’t help, coach Chris Finberg noted.

It’s still a very young team in a conference that doesn’t really have any weak teams. The Cats start three sophomores — Hill, Alihn Anderson and Cody Schweikert.

“Our conference is pretty good from top to bottom,” Finberg noted. “Almost everyone is at or above .500.”

The Cats played pretty solid ball against Bigfork.

“We shot the real well,” Finberg said.

The boys are 7-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

They play a lot of basketball this week. They face Libby at home Thursday night at 7:15 p.m., then Shelby Friday at home then travel to Shelby Saturday.

The Loggers have two 6-5 kids that are good players. Finberg said they’ll try to force some turnovers and make it an up and down game.

Shelby features 6-8 junior Rhett Reynolds, who has already committed to play ball for the University of Montana. They’ll need to at least slow him down a bit.
