Like the boys, the Columbia Falls girls basketball team also split last week. The Wildkats lost to Bigfork on the road, 38-30, but bounced back for a conference win over Polson 61-24.

The Kats had a tough time scoring against Bigfork, with just three points apiece in the second and third quarters.

Grace Gedlaman had 14 in the loss. Hope McAtee had 10.

Turnovers didn’t help any, noted coach Cary Finberg. The Wildkats had a whopping 36.

That few points and that many turnovers, “is not a good ratio to have,” he noted.

Against Polson, Maddie Robison had a great night with 24, followed by Gedlaman with 10.

The Kats were up 31-14 at the half and never looked back.

The girls are now 6-1 in conference and 9-4 overall. Two of those losses came against Bigfork.

The Kats have matured their defensive effort as they come down the home stretch, but Finberg said they have to work on turnovers on the offensive end and being more consistent offensively.

“We have three weeks to figure that out,” he said.

He’s been pleased with Gedlaman’s play over the past month, both offensively and defensively.

“We just need some other girls to be a little more consistent,” he said.

The Kats have a busy schedule this week. They travel to Libby Thursday, are home Friday against Shelby and then on the road against Shelby Saturday.

Shelby has one just one win and Libby has won just two.

The girls play at 5 p.m. at home Friday night, the boys at 6:30 p.m.
