The Columbia Falls girls basketball team went 1-2 in a tough week on the road.

The girls lost to conference foe Browning, 74-53 Friday night, but then beat Class B Florence the next day 52-40.

On Monday, they lost to Class B Bigfork, 69-46.

Against Browning, the Wildkats simply couldn’t recover from a slow start, as Browning shot out to a 14-point lead.

The Kats would cut it to six in the third quarter, coach Cary Finberg said, but then Browning pulled away in the end.

“(Browning) is good,” Finberg said. “No doubt about that … we dug too big a hole.”

Against Florence the girls didn’t play all that well in the first half, Finberg said, but they played better in the second to get the win.

Emalee Alton had 12 points and 10 boards in the win, while Hope McAtee had 12, too. Kierra Kemppainen had eight and Lexi Oberholtzer and Taryn Borgen had seven apiece.

Oberholtzer had 17 against the Lady Indians.

The Kats keep up the road tour with a game against Polson Thursday. Polson is an improved team with a transfer from Washington state and one from Charlo.

“We need to find a way to get a win in conference,” Finberg said.
