MatCats win Owen Invitational

The Columbia Falls boys wrestling team took first at the Owens Invitational in Polson to open the season over the weekend.
The MatCats racked up 215 points. Frenchtown was second with 175.5 and Libby was third.
First-place finishers included Jaxson Sterling (103) who pinned Connor Melton of Bigfork; Tyler Gilfry (126) beat Landree Aurand of Whitefish, 3-1; Blake Hoerner (132) pinned Angus Anderson of Bigfork and Justin Windauer (152) pinned Adyn Meinzen of Florence.
Also doing well were Traic Fainter (112) fifth; Chris Rathjen (138) second; Josiah Kilman (145) sixth; Trey Torpen (160) third; Rowdy Crump (170) third; and Brandon Role (205) fourth.
It was the girls’ first tourney ever and they took fifth as a team.
Jaelynn Nace (100) took second, Sheridan Black, (138) took third and Chantel Whicher (185) took third as well.
Camas Brown-Fortin (235) took second.
The teams travel to the Mining City Duals this weekend in Butte.
