Don Zen Allred

Don Zen Allred, 88, returned to his Heavenly home Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022 while at home in Gold Star Park, Quartzsite, Arizona, where he and his wife, Louise, have resided since 1997.

He was born May 18, 1934 in Charlo to James Zeneth and Dollie Loretta Burraston Allred, the fifth of six children. He graduated from Ronan High school in 1953 and went to Mollar Barber college in Spokane Washington.

After graduating he worked in Missoula and then in Anaconda where he met his future wife Louise Kunkel. They were married July 10, 1955. Jan. 7, 1956 he entered the U.S. Army where he served until December 1957.

Don went back to Anaconda to barber for eight months before purchasing his own barbershop in Columbia Falls. In 1970, Don sold the shop and accepted a job with the Columbia Falls School District 6 as purchasing agent and transportation supervisor. He retired in December 1993.

The following month Don and Louise started their retirement life and became snowbirds traveling to visit family and friends in Arizona. Three years later they sold their Columbia Falls home, and bought a home in Quartzsite, Arizona and resided there until his death.

Don was a life-long active member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and held many positions during his lifetime. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Louise Kunkel Allred, and children Roger (Lorree) Allred, Quartzsite; Jerry (Deniece) Allred, Kalispell; Jim (Gwen) Allred, West Fargo North Dakota; Renee’ (Bob) Lange, Callao, Missouri; Darren (Donna) Allred, Grand Junction, Colorado; also sisters, Beth Nolan, Grantsville, Utah; and Jean Remington, Somers; 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Jean Allred, granddaughter Aubrea Dawn Allred, parents Zen and Dollie Allred,  brother Buddie Allred, sisters Ruth Barber, and Lois Bachmeier. 

A Memorial Service was held Nov. 26 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Quartzsite. Graveside Service was Dec.3 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls. Service were provide by Parker Funeral Home and Columbia Mortuary.
