The Columbia Falls football team blew out Stevensville on the road Thursday in their season opener.

Junior quarterback Cody Schweikert threw three touchdowns and ran for a couple in the 35-7 win.

Schweikert threw 43 times for 425 yards.

“Every receiver touched the ball,” coach Jaxon Schweikert said.

He gave kudos to the offensive line.

“They were excellent,” he said.

On the defensive end, the Wildcats gave up just one broken play for Stevi’s lone score.

Schweikert said inside linebackers Hunter Goodman and and Blaise Wunderlich did a fine job against the run.

“They were tremendous,” he said. The corners also shut down Stevi’s passing game.

The game was played on Thursday because of referee shortages league-wide.

Schweikert’s 28-yard scoring pass to Alihn Anderson broke a 7-7 tie in the second quarter. That capped an 80-yard drive set up by Jace Hill’s interception of a Stevi pass.

Up 14-7, Columbia Falls took advantage of a bobbled punt snap with a 23-yard drive, capped by Schweikert’s 11-yard scramble.

Schweikert then added a 13-yard TD strike to Reggie Sapa in the third quarter, and hit Jace Duval on a fade for 7 yards and the final score in the fourth.

The Cats are on the road against East Helena, who was walloped by Libby, 37-0 last week.
