Special teams. Defense.Offense. It was all clicking for the Columbia Falls football team Friday night as the Wildcats hammered Libby for homecoming, 48-0.

The Wildcats held Libby to just 35 yards on offense in a dominant performance.

Libby’s woes started on the opening kickoff, when the return man caught the ball and then tip-toed out of bounds at about the 11 yard line. The Cats defense held and the Loggers had to punt.

At the 8:35 mark, quarterback Cody Schweikert hit Mark Robison on a 30-yard pass for the Cats first touchdown. Kai Golan was perfect on point after attempts through the game.

On the next Libby possession, Schweikert picked off the Libby pass and Isaiah Roth ran it in a few plays later from two yards out at the 7:37 mark in the first quarter.

The defense held the Loggers again and on the punt, Roth ran 42 yards for the Cats next touchdown. They stopped Libby again and then the Golan hit a 25-yard field goal in the first to make it 24-0.

The rout was on.

The Cats added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, as Roth capped off a 91-yard drive with a 1-yard run and Jace Duval nabbed a 18-yard pass from Mason Peters to make it 38-0 at the half as the Cats took advantage of a Libby fumble.

Duval had a 65-yard touchdown reception in the second half and Golan hit a 31-yard field goal to cap off the scoring for the Cats.

Golan’s only misstep was a 41-yard field goal attempt that went wide right in the first half.

Schweikert threw for 246 yards on 11-for-18 passing.

Cade Morgan had six catches for 123 yards and the Cats had 342 yards total offense.

The boys have the week off, a scheduled bye and then stiffer competition on the road Oct. 1 as they face Polson, who 4-0 on the year and coming off a 62-8 drubbing of Ronan as they put up 559 yards of offense against the Chiefs.

It should be a great game and one that’s worth the hour’s drive to Polson.
