Glacier Park plow crews start clearing roads

In an annual rite of spring, Glacier National Park plow crews have begun clearing roads of snow.

On the east side, crews have started plowing the Chief Mountain Road as of presstime. They typically start on the Two Medicine Road shortly thereafter.

Glacier reopened the east side of the park last week, after the Blackfeet Tribe reopened the reservation to recreational use. The east side had been closed for nearly a year due

to the coronavirus pandemic.

On April 1, crews are expected to start on the Camas Road. They then start on the Going-to-the-Sun Road after Camas is done, though the expectation is they won’t start on the Sun Road until April 5.

Roads are typically closed to hikers and bikers when plows are working, but they’re open to hiking and biking when they’re not working, later in the evenings.

Typically, crews put up closures signs when

they’re working.

The Park also warns that a layer of ice is usually left on the road after plowing, so people should be aware of that.
