Jerry Ray Downing

| June 30, 2021 8:30 AM

Jerry Ray Downing passed peacefully on June 16, 2021, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Kalispell to Gerald and Diane Downing on Feb. 8, 1961 and lived most of his life in the Flathead Valley.

Jerry Ray’s soul shone strong and his spirit was bright and fearless. He was gifted in his ability to recognize the humanity and light in those lucky enough to cross his path. Reflective and often solitary, Jerry travelled his journey with both humility and grace. He lived life on his own terms; apologetic to none, but accepting of all, and taking care to point out the best in others around him.

Jerry was preceded in death by parents, Gerald Downing and Diane Sigman; sisters Kelly Kay Downing and Eileen Holmquist; brother Scott Downing and his nephew Dustin Downing.

He is survived by his brothers Jeffrey Downing of Tacoma, Washington, Ernie Holmquist of Pueblo, Colorado, and his sister Leslie Ann Breimon of Kalama, Washington.

Jerry leaves behind many friends and relatives that were touched by his presence here on earth. The Canyon was his playground growing up, where he roamed camping, fishing, and getting into some impressive shenanigans with siblings, cousins, friends, and his lifelong friend to the end, Don Hanks.

Jerry was blessed to have many wonderful friends and family to love and care for him during his lifetime and in his final days. The family will be forever grateful to Debbie Allen for the love and generosity that she extended to Jerry and to his friends and family. Also, to Don Hanks, Mike Downing, Darcy Bechtel and Penny Hardy, for the incredible support and love that they gave throughout Jerry’s life and in his final hours.

Rest in peace, brother. You will be missed.
