Stakeholders sought for Krause Basin

by STAFF REPORT
Staff Report | July 14, 2021 6:55 AM

The Flathead National Forest and Swan Lake Ranger District is requesting public participants for the Krause Basin collaboration effort. Krause Basin collaboration participants will develop and provide recommendations to the Forest Service regarding a recreation management strategy within the Krause Basin/Peter’s Ridge area. Interested participants should be committed to building consensus and demonstrate the ability for collaborative decision making.

Krause Basin/Peter’s Ridge is located east of Foothill Road and southwest of Strawberry Mountain in the Swan Mountain Range, close to the communities of Kalispell and Bigfork.

This area provides both non-motorized and motorized opportunities such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, off-highway vehicle use, Nordic skiing, and snowmobiling.

The Flathead National Forest’s Forest Management Plan identifies Krause Basin as a “focused recreation”area. Focused recreation areas provide sustainable recreational opportunities and settings which respond to an increasing recreation demand. The Swan Lake Ranger District is building an interested participant list.

If you are interested in participating in this collaborative effort, please respond by Aug, 15 by emailing your name, business or organization (if applicable), phone number, physical mailing address and email address to the Project Lead, Darlene Bridges (Subject Line: Krause Basin) at comments-northern-flathead-swan-lake@usda.gov or send a letter to Swan Lake Ranger District, Attn: Darlene Bridges/Krause Basin, 200 Ranger Station Road, Bigfork, MT 59911.
