Heat sets records, but wasn't the hottest June ever

Last week’s extreme heat broke records for June, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs of 101 and 100 on June 29 and 30 respectively broke records from 1979 and 2008.

It was the fourth warmest June overall on record dating back to 1948. The warmest June ever was 2015, when the average temperature was 65 degrees.

It also tied for the most 100 degree days in June — two — with 2015.

By contrast, the coldest day was June 11 when it dropped down to 34 degrees.

Total precipitation was 1.98 inches, which is .86 inch below normal.

Official measurements are taken the Glacier Park International Airport. From a regional perspective, the hottest temperature was at the Eureka Ranger Station which reached 106 on June 30.
