Columbia Falls man dies in fatal accident in Canyon
A Columbia Falls man is dead after a two-vehicle accident in the Bad Rock Canyon Sunday night.
According to Flathead County Sheriff Brian Heino, John Werner, 56, was ejected from a Subaru he was driving east on U.S. Highway 2 at mile marker 141. Medical personnel attempted lifesaving efforts, but Werner died at the scene.
Werner’s vehicle left the roadway, overcorrected and went into the opposite lane and was struck by an oncoming pickup truck broadside, said Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Tori Harris.
A witness at the scene said the Subaru was torn in half.
The accident occurred just past Berne Park on the curve beyond the gravel pullout.
Roads were dry at the time.
The crash is still under investigation. Speed, alcohol and drugs have not been ruled out, Harris said.
