Kats thump Blue Devils on the road, but it took awhile
The Columbia Falls girls basketball team overcame a rough start to thump Corvallis on the road, 48-23, to open the 2021 basketball season.
The Kats had just a 16-13 lead at the break and were down at one point in the first quarter 8-2.
They would come back to tie it up by the end of the stanza, but the offense really didn’t get going until the second half.
The Kats had 13 turnovers in the first half and committed 18 fouls. They righted the ship in the second half.
The Kats played solid defense, throughout. Madysen Hoerner had 16 rebounds and six points, Lauren Falkner had nine points and seven boards and Grace Gedlaman came off the bench and had seven points.
Lakia Hill led all scorers with 10 points, six boards and five assists. She scored all of her points in the second half. Maddy Robison had nine, Hannah Schweikert five, and freshman Hope McAtee came off the bench with two points and five boards.
Alexis Green also had a good night defensively, coach Cary Finberg said and she also had two assists.
Finberg was pleased with the effort, but wasn’t happy with the offensive output.
“Our effort throughout was consistent,” he said. They just need to make a few more shots.
