Softball sees a couple slip away as they go 1-2 on the week
Wildcat softball went 1-2 in a week that began on a high note with a 13-3 sweep against Eureka on Tuesday before suffering two close losses against Ronan on Thursday and Stevensville on Saturday.
“It was a really good game for us to have before [Ronan],” said head coach Dave Kehr over the Cats’ blowout against Eureka that ended in the fifth after they saw 13 runs on 15 hits with zero errors.
“I felt pretty good about the overall effort,” he added. “It was top-tobottom in our lineup that hit, so it was a really good team effort.”
Sydney Mann struck out seven against the Lions. Abbey Underdahl relieved Mann in the fourth, allowing two runs on three hits, walking one and striking out two.
Aletheia Fisher went 3-4 to lead the Wildkats in hits. The Kats went on to face Ronan two days later, leading 9-2 until the Maidens tied it up in the bottom of the fourth. The teams drew a stalemate until Ronan drove in a run to make it 10-9 in the sixth and held on for the win.
Columbia Falls hit the road to play against Stevensville on Saturday. The Cats were leading 7-4 at the top of the sixth, when the Yellowjackets slammed in five runs for a late 9-7 victory.
Underdahl led the Cats in hits, finishing the game 2 for 3 against Stevi.
Columbia Falls is scheduled to play Libby away after presstime on Tuesday, followed by an away game against Browning on Thursday and a home game against Polson at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
