Hungry Horse woman dies after running in front of tow truck

A pedestrian died after being hit by a tow truck at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in Hungry Horse.

The victim was identified as Christina Vlieland, 58, of Hungry Horse.

According to Montana Highway Patrol, a 64-year-old Columbia Falls man driving a Dodge Ram 3500 was traveling westbound on U.S. 2 when the pedestrian ran in front of the tow truck near mile marker 142. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, was not injured. Two passengers from Greenfield Center, New York, and one passenger from Los Angeles were also not injured. It is unknown if they were wearing their seatbelts.

Road conditions were clear and dry. Speed was not considered to be a factor in the collision.

The pedestrian was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper David Mills.
