A home on Eighth Avenue West in Columbia Falls was destroyed in an early morning fire.

The fire broke out about 12:47 a.m.

The occupants of the house were awoken by smoke alarms and were able to get out safely, but with the phones in the house, the call didn’t come in until the house was fully engulfed.

Police said a single woman lived at the home.

Whitefish responded with mutual aid.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, said Columbia Falls fire chief Karl Weeks.
