Cigarette caused house fire

A fire that burned down a Columbia Falls home Sept. 22 was caused by a cigarette thrown in some mulch near the home’s front deck, fire chief Karl Weeks said.

The mulch caught the front deck on fire, which, in turn, set the home on fire, Weeks said.

The occupants of the house were able to get out unharmed, but the house was a total loss.
