It's a bit late, but winter will arrive in the coming days
Watching snow fall in Glacier National Park.
A series of winter events promise to bring snow and plummet temperatures over the weekend.
The first round of snow for Northwest Montana is expected Friday, with 2 to 4 inches in the Kalispell area and 5 to 10 inches in the higher terrain.
West of Kalispell toward Libby, they could see 8 to 12 inches of snow Friday.
The big change comes later Sunday into Monday as an arctic front crosses the Divide. That could bring 6 to 8 inches to the Kalispell area and 8 to 12 inches in higher terrain, along with high winds resulting in blizzard conditions.
Temperatures will plummet from the 30s on Saturday to highs of 4 below zero by Monday, the National Weather Service said.
The cold and snow could last, too. The outlook for Jan. 12-16 is for colder and wetter conditions for Northwest Montana, a marked change from the past two months which have been mild and rainy in the lower elevations.
