Harriet Reese Head
Harriet Delores Reese Head passed away peacefully on Jan. 27, 2020 in Columbia Falls. She was born at home Jan. 4, 1931 in rural Burnett County, Wisconsin, the second of three girls to Ethel and Harry Reese. In 1945 the family moved to Portland, Oregon where she graduated from high school and met the handsome and adventurous Vern (Bill) Head. They married in 1948. The last of their three children had just arrived when they packed up and moved to Columbia Falls when Bill started work at the Anaconda Aluminum Plant in 1955.
Harriet went to cosmetology school in 1960 and worked as a beautician for several years. Later she found her favorite job working at the Wallflower, both in Columbia Falls.
Aside from being a devoted wife and mother she was energetic and curious about a wide variety of topics and was always an avid reader. At various times through her life she enjoyed bowling, water and snow skiing, horseback riding, golfing, sewing, playing cards, making art, baking and gardening.
Harriet was a longtime member of United Methodist Church and volunteered there in various ways through the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 2005. Harriet is survived by her children, Jan (Denny) Cockrell, Linda Post, Jim (Joyce) Head; grandchildren Amber Braden, Kelsey McAlpine, Travis Post, Brandon Head, Melissa Sugay, Amy Piilola and 10 great-grands who will all miss her dearly. She loved her family above all else and was a wonderful mother and an awesome grandma!
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Columbia Falls, Friday Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. A light lunch will be provided by Beulah Circle. The family is grateful for the caregivers at Bee Hive Homes who extended their warm hearts and compassion throughout her time there.
