School District 6 OK's Wick contract

The School District 6 Board of Trustees unanimously approved a new superintendent contract after negotiations with David Wick Monday evening.

Provisions of the contract include a three-year term beginning on July 1 of this year and a starting salary of $119,000, with an additional $14,535 in satisfaction of Wick’s previous contract. The salary is up for review after successful completion of the first year.

Until July 1, Wick continues as acting president of the National Association of Elementary School Principals. In the interim he attends as many board meetings as possible when not traveling to speak at conferences.

One of Wick’s top priorities is to smoothly manage the major transitions occurring in the district in hiring new curriculum and special education directors. His experience within the district is helpful on that front.

“I love being a principal, but I think it’s good for some stability in the district for me to move to that job,” he said after the meeting.

He also plans on being heavily involved in the school’s upcoming building projects, and to “continue to hire incredible teachers like we have right now,” he said.

Wick was the Columbia Falls junior high principal for 23 years.

He has experience with building projects, as he oversaw the construction of the junior high 20 years ago.

The board selected Wick back in December.
