They’re back on the winning track.

The Columbia Falls girls basketball team went 3-0 on the week, including coming from behind to win a squeaker against Ronan at home last Tuesday, 58-54.

They then dumped Whitefish 66-32 at home Friday night and Corvallis 59-36 at home Saturday.

Against Ronan the girls were down 46-28 midway through third and the Maidens looked to be firmly in control.

But then the shots that weren’t dropping the first three quarters for the Kats found their marks and they slowly, but surely, chipped away the Maidens’ lead. The girls also tightened down defensively against Ronan.

Coach Cary Finberg said the Kats came out flat and Ronan hit their shots.

“Give our kids credit for not giving up and fighting through adversity,” he said.

The Kats were lead by Hannah Schweikert who had 12 of her 17 points in the fourth. Maddie Robison had 15 points and 11 rebounds and a key steal in the last 45 seconds of fourth quarter that helped ice the game. Solid play by Josie Windauer through the first three quarters kept the Kats within striking distance. She had 11 points and 11 rebounds. LaKia Hill had 13.

The Kats had just two turnovers in the second half.

Against the hapless Bulldogs, Schweikert had 17 as the Kats scored 24 points in the first quarter alone to cruise to victory.

Madysen Hoerner had eight blocks against the Lady Bulldogs.

Against Corvallis, Schweikert had the hot hand again with 22. Hill had 14. Robison and Windauer had 10.

The Kats were up 18-8 after the first stanza.

The Kats play Libby on the road Friday and then face Polson at home Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m. for the Polson game.

The girls are now 12-1 on the season.

Polson marks the last home game of the season for the Kats. They’re on the road after that with tough tests against Browning and Ronan away in the last seven days of the regular season. Finberg likes the team’s progress.

“Overall we’re playing more of how we want to play from start to finish,” he said.
