Chris E Mundel

Chris E Mundel, 51, passed away suddenly on March 1, 2020. Chris was born in Whitefish. He was a lifelong resident of the Flathead Valley and true Montana native.

Chris graduated from Columbia Falls High School. On June 7th, 2003 he married the love of his life Kimberly Mundel at beautiful Spotted Bear Ranch. At that time Chris was a legendary guide for Spotted Bear Ranch. It was at this time where the mountain man vs. city girl adventure began.

Chris was a professional hunting and fishing guide for 30 years. He guided in both Montana and Alaska. He loved spending time with his family and friends and teaching them how to hunt and fish. Chris guided many successful elk hunts in the South Fork country and many successful deer hunts in the Missouri Breaks. The outdoor lifestyle came natural to him, it was his passion in life. He had a great appreciation of all things wild and the wilderness. He worked very hard and played harder, but always got the job done and done right the first time. He made people’s dreams come true and they appreciated him for it. He was known for his gentle nature, but was as tough as they come. It was not uncommon for Chris to pack a mule deer whole, sometimes on his back.

In addition to guiding, he began working for the Montana Department of Transportation in 2005. He enjoyed working for the MDT and was promoted throughout the years from maintenance tech plowing snow, to supervisor of West Glacier, to superintendent of Libby Division and then to superintendent of Kalispell Division.

Chris packed more “life” into every moment because he knew tomorrow was never promised.

He was strong, hard-headed, determined, extremely focused on accomplishing his goals and never gave up. “Quit” and “rest” were NOT in his vocabulary. His family and friends will forever miss his kind spirit and gentle soul. His adventure has ended too soon and our hearts will never be the same. The legacy he left is strong and he will never be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Mundel; his children Nicole (Mario) Jaimes, Kaine Mundel, Haily Mundel; his three grandchildren; his parents Ed (Dianne) Mundel, LaVonne (Mike) Divish; his brother Jason (Jeanette) Mundel; his sister Roxann (Jon) Nagler; his nieces and nephews.
