Kats perfect through first round of conference

The dominant start to the volleyball season continued for the Wildkats last week as they defeated Whitefish and Ronan to improve to 6-0 overall and remained undefeated through the first round of conference play.
Despite the wins, head coach Jolandie Brooks says there is still work to be done.
“I am most pleased by our consistency. For the most part, we are showing up and competing well and keeping our side as clean as possible, especially during the Whitefish match, she said.” I still would like to see us get faster on our transitions and especially on our defensive reads. We have a couple rotations that need some fine tuning, as well.”
The Kats got 13 kills from Madysen Hoerner and eight more from both Kiera Brown and Dillen Hoerner as they blew past the Lady Bulldogs in Whitefish last Tuesday, 25-5, 25-20 and 25-11.
Columbia Falls looked unstoppable in the opening set of the match, scoring the first 17 points before cruising to a 25-5 victory.
Whitefish was able to keep pace with the Kats for most of the second set, but the Kats pulled away at the end to win by five. It was again all Kats in the third set as Columbia Falls won 25-11 to complete the sweep.
Hannah Schweikert had 26 of the team’s 27 assists in the win while Madysen Hoerner led in digs with 12 while libero Angellica Street added 10. Brown added two blocks while Schweikert and Lauren Falkner each had two aces.
The Kats looked just as impressive in Ronan Thursday as they swept the Lady Pirates in three sets, 25-16, 25-19 and 25-13.
Dillen Hoerner led the attack this time around with nine kills while Brown added seven. Street led the defense with 14 digs while Madysen Hoerner added eight and Brown recorded a pair of blocks. Schweikert had all 19 Wildkat assists in the win while Falker recorded three aces and Street and Dillen Hoerner each had two.
Brooks said the quick start to the season has been nice, but the team is focusing on larger goals down the road.
“In order for us to keep getting better we can not become complacent,” she said. “We have to train hard in practice with Divisionals and State in mind.”
The Kats hosted Ronan for a Homecoming contest Tuesday and will be off until they face Hamilton and Corvallis on the road Oct. 5.
