Coram breaks ground on new fire hall
The Coram-West Glacier Fire Department broke ground Monday on a new fire hall at the corner of Seville Lane and U.S. Highway 2.
The old facility in Coram was little more than a garage. It didn’t even have running water.
The new $1 million hall will have 6,960 square feet and feature five bays, offices, and a community meeting room.
The department does have a station in West Glacier, but in the 21-square mile district, seven miles long and three miles wide, there is an urgent need for a new modern station at the Coram end of the coverage area, secretary-treasurer Gil Jordan noted.
The department has been planning and saving money for the new hall for 10 years now, Jordan said.
Kalispell-based Camas Creek Contracting won the bid to construct the hall, and Freedom Bank is providing the loan to complete the funding for the project.
Work will start immediately and the hall is expected to be completed by next spring.
