I’m writing to all of the old timers, friends, and everyone. As I see so many of my old friends and classmates slip away from us I would like to hear from others through the Hungry Horse News who remember the way it was during the depression and war.

One of my wise daughters once said we should try to not dwell on things that are wrong or bad, but think about things that have made our lives better. I remember the big hill going into Columbia Falls. We would pull the spark and throttle all the way down on the old ’28 Chevy and get a run for it. Now you don’t even think about going up a hill. I am also glad we don’t have to crank the motor or drain the radiator every night.

We must all remember how important friends and neighbors were during hard times. With everyone helping each other we could make it through the long winter with enough food during the Depression.

I would like to thank Chris Peterson for his photos. They let me see once again some of the places that I remember. I especially liked the article about the truck loaded with firewood that was stuck. He got it out by pulling, pushing, and rocking on the steering wheel. I do that too. Most of all I would like, if you can, something that you remember from long ago and write a short letter to the paper so we can remember how our lives have changed.
