Langton garners kudos at state golf tourney
Columbia Falls boys golf team had a tough go at the state A golf tournament Oct. 3-4 in Laurel.
Their top golfer, Tyler Langton, was disqualified after an inadvertent score error in the first round on one hole.
Langton, played through the second round, however, with some of the worst golfers in the state.
That brought notice from the Laurel athletic director, Roger Heimbigner.
Instead of pouting, Langton played on.
“Throughout the day he helped the rest of the kids in his group with the rules and etiquette of the game. He also was giving them high fives when they parred a hole and celebrated their successes. He turned into a mentor for those kids,” Heimbigner said in an email to Columbia Falls AD Troy Bowman.
Prior to the score mistake, Langton had a shot of making the top 15 in the state.
“...We just wanted to let you know how impressed we were. I am sure he will do well in life,” Heimbigner added.
The Wildcat squad had a final score of 825. Laurel won the event with a 665. The girls team did not compete at state.
