Another storm closes east side roads in Glacier

Another October snow has closed down roads on Glacier National Park’s east side.

The Going-to-the-Sun Road is now closed at the 1.5 mile gate at St. Mary; the Two Medicine and Many Glacier roads have also closed.

Last night (Tuesday) the Camas Road was gated as well, but it has since reopened.

The Sun Road on the west side remains open to Avalanche Creek.

This is the second early fall storm to hit the region. A storm at the end of September dropped as much as 52 inches in Babb. That snow had greatly melted and roads on the east side of the Park were plowed and reopened.

This storm wasn’t as potent, but it did drop about a half-foot of snow on the east side according to early reports, and several inches in West Glacier as well. Columbia Falls saw about an inch.

The earlier storm didn’t drop any snow in West Glacier. This snow shouldn’t last long — temperatures should be in the upper-to mid-50s by the weekend.
