Kats dominate in pair of soccer wins
The Wildkats continued their domination of the Northwest A soccer conference last week, picking up blowout wins at Libby Thursday and at home against Bigfork Saturday.
The Kats struggled to score in the first half at Libby Thursday, but erupted for five goals in second half to pull away for an 7-1 victory.
“We came out a little slow and complacent in the first half, but the girls responded to a pretty strong halftime talk and came out with some firepower in the second half to pull away,” head coach Thomas Clark said.
Four different Kats scored in the win, including two goals each from Maddie Robison, Josie Windauer and Sydney Mann. The other Kat goal came from Cheyanne Johnston-Heinz.
For Mann, it was her first two goals at the varsity level.
The Kats wasted no time getting on the scoreboard against Bigfork Saturday, grabbing a 1-0 lead just 18 seconds into the contest en route to an 8-0 victory. The Kats outshot the Valkyries 41-0 in the win as Windauer scored four goals and Robison, Mann, Johnston-Heinz and Flora Jarvis each scored one. Johnston-Heinz also had four assists in the win while Robison and Jarvis both added one.
LaKia Hill and Alexis Green once again dominated the defensive midfield, setting up several of the Wildkat scoring opportunities.
“They have really been the glue that has held us together. They work their tails off every game and their off the ball defensive movement is superior to any other defensive midfield I have seen in the state,” Clark said.
The Kats were home again against Whitefish Tuesday and will play host to Polson Thursday at 7 p.m.
