Park plows closing in on Pass
Glacier National Park plow crews were less than a mile from Logan Pass as of presstime on the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Crews on the west side were working at Rimrocks, which is a band of cliffs just below the pass. The east side crews were still working at Siyeh Bend.
Most Park secondary roads are now open, save for the Inside North Fork Road, which is closed from Logging Creek to Fish Creek. The Sun Road is open to Avalanche to vehicles on the west side and to Rising Sun on the east side.
As a reminder, the earliest the Sun Road will open to vehicle traffic for its full length is June 22, though hikers and bikers can generally travel the road as far as possible when crews aren’t working on weekends and sometimes later in the day on weekends.
But this spring, Glacier is planning road preservation work, so hikers and bikers will likely see further restrictions during the week, as the sealant can’t be immediately walked or rode on.
On the weekends, the park offers a free hiker and biker shuttle from Apgar to Avalanche through a grant from the Glacier National Park Conservancy, the nonprofit fundraising arm of the Park.
