Record-setting week for C-Falls track teams

It was another record-setting week for the Wildcat track teams as Angellica Street set a new school record in the javelin while many other Columbia Falls athletes set new personal records to qualify for the state meet.

Street set a new school record Tuesday as she won her event with a personal-best throw of 150 feet, 1 inch at the Mike Nicosia Cat/Dog dual. The toss is the fourth longest in the state since Montana went to the 600g javelin in 2002 and is also 10th longest throw in the nation so far this year.

For the girls, the Wildkats finished the day with 238 points to finish behind Whitefish’s 267.

Along with her win the javelin, Street also won the discus with a throw of 94 feet, 5.5 inches and was second in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 1 inch.

Other top finishers for the Kats included Lara Erickson, who won the 800 with a time of 2:30.55, Genevieve Delorme, who won the 1,600 with a time of 5:50.29 and Josie Windauer, who won the pole vault by clearing 9 feet.

The 400 relay team of Alexis Green, Maddie Robison, LaKia Hill and Windauer also won their event with a time of 52.28 seconds.

Elsewhere for the Kats, Hannah Sempf was second in the high jump and third in the 200 and pole vault. Robison was second in the 1,600 while Evaly Hull was third. Cheyanne Johnston-Heinz was third in the 100 hurdles, Alexis Purcell was second in the pole vault and long jump, Green was second in the triple jump and Maddie Hoerner was third in the javelin while Paige Burger was third.

The Wildcats were winners as they defeated Whitefish in the Mike Nicosia Cat/Dog dual, 346.5 to 249.5.

Columbia Falls took the top spot in nine of 16 events at the meet and also came away with 10 second-place and nine third-place finishes.

Drew Morgan and Danny Henjum both earned a pair of individual first-place finishes for the Cats as Morgan qualified for state with a personal best time of 11.29 seconds to win the 100 and also won the javelin with a toss of 162 feet, 8 inches. Henjum set a new personal best of 54.40 seconds to win the 400 and also won the 200 with a time of 23.36 seconds.

Morgan and Henjum also teamed up with Zack Pletcher and Kaedan Clewien to win the 400 relay with a time of 44.20 seconds.

Parker Greene was a winner in the discus with a toss of 139 feet, 1 inch, James Petersen won the 1,600 with a time of 5:02.9, Aidan Jarvis won the 3,200 with a time of 10:27.00 and the 1600 relay team of Jordan Meadows, Allec Knapton, Bailey Sjostrom and Richard Role also won their event with a time of 3:48.01.

Elsewhere for the Cats, Clewien was second in the 100 and 200 races and third in the shot put, Pletcher was second in the 800 and third in the 100, Sjostrom was third in the 400, Seth Umbriaco was second in the 1,600, while William Dyon was third, Beau Umbriaco was second in the 3,200 and Thienhoa Jacobi was third, Richard Babcock was third in the 110 hurdles, Knapton was second in the 300 hurdles, Jakob Beich was second in the high jump, Russell Albin was second in the pole vault and Jaxon Heinz was third, Chance Adams was second in the long jump and triple jump, Isaac Balla was third in the long jump and Tyler Langton was third in the discus.

Street was setting records again Saturday as she set meet best at the Archie Roe Invitational in Kalispell with a javelin toss of 143 feet, 3 inches to take first place. Street also took second in the discus and seventh in shot put with a state qualifying throw of 35 feet, 2 inches. Street will join teammate Kiera Brown, who qualified in the event in Eureka on April 23.

Brown finished third at the Archie Roe with a personal best toss of 36 feet, 5 inches.

Windauer won the 400 with a time of 1:00.61 and teamed up with Green, Robinson and Delorme to finish second and qualify for state in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:10.54. Paige Burger took third in the triple jump as the Kats finished fifth at the meet, overall.

The Cats had only two top-three finishes at the meet as they finished sixth with 26 team points.

Pletcher will be going to state in the 300 hurdles after finishing second with a personal best time of 41.68 seconds while the 400 relay team of Pletcher, Adams, Henjum and Clewien ran their fastest race of the year to come in third at 43.94 seconds.

Joe Lamb qualified for state in the 3,200, finishing seventh with a personal best time of 10:08.91.

Both teams will be in Kalispell to take on Glacier Thursday before traveling to Polson for the ABC Meet Saturday.
