As weather turns warmer, Park opens more roads
Glacier National Park has opened the Going-to-the-Sun Road to Avalanche Creek to motor vehicles. The Many Glacier Road, Two Medicine Road, Bowman Lake Road and Chief Mountain Road are open as to vehicles as well.
The Sun Road on the east side is open to Rising Sun to vehicles.
The Park reminds folks that they can expect delays on the road as preservation work is taking place. Crews are also working in West Glacier doing crosswalk improvements and putting a turning lane in at River Bend Drive.
Hikers and bikers can also expect closures of the road during the weekdays when preservation work is taking place.
The full length of the Sun Road won’t open to vehicles until June 22 at the earliest. Plows were clearing slides from earlier in the week. Prior to that, they were about two miles from Logan Pass.
The hiker-biker shuttle from Apgar to Avalanche is now running as well on the weekends. While the shuttle is free, it is funded through the Glacier National Park Conservancy and costs about $75,000 annually. Supporting the Conservancy helps support the shuttle and donations are gladly accepted.
