Track teams win in Eureka, compete in Whitefish

The Columbia Falls High School track team was split in two Tuesday as part of the team competed at the Eureka meet while the top finishers so far this season were in Missoula for the Top-10 meet.

The Wildcats picked up a pair of top finishes in Missoula Tuesday as Drew Morgan set a new personal best to win the 200 with a time of 22.57 seconds while the 400-meter relay team of Morgan, Danny Henjum, Zack Pletcher and Kaedan Clewien won the event with a time of 43.77 seconds.

Elsewhere for the boys, Morgan also finished fourth in the 100 with a time of 11.52 seconds and fourth in the javelin with a personal best toss of 179 feet. Parker Greene was fourth in the discus with a season-best throw of 145 feet, 8 inches, Aidan Jarvis was sixth in the 800 with a personal-best time of 2:04.71, Pletcher was eighth in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best time of 41.96 seconds, Henjum was eighth in the 200 with a time of 23.43 seconds and the 1,600-meter relay team of Henjum, Pletcher, Jarvis and Morgan was 10th with a time of 3:38.96.

Angellica Street had the top finish of the day for the girls, winning the javelin with a toss of 135 feet, 3 inches, while Josie Windauer set personal bests to finish third in the both the 400 and javelin. Windauer cleared 10 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault and ran the 400 in 59.89 seconds.

Genevieve Delorme ran the 800 in 2:28.90 to finish sixth while the 1600 meter relay team of Alexis Green, Flora Jarvis, Windauer and Delorme was ninth with a time of 4:17.57.

Both the boys and girls in Eureka had strong showings as the boys ran away with the team title while the girls held off Libby to get the win.

The Wildcats had 19 top-three places on the day, including winning six events. Colten McPhee was the winner in the 200 with a person-best time of 24.39 seconds while Joe Lamb won the 1,600 with a season-best 4:54.53. Seth Umbriaco was the winner in the 3,200 with a time of 10:45.52 while Isaac Balla leapt a personal best 19 feet, 10 inches to win the long jump. The 400 relay team of McPhee, Balla, Logan Bechtel and Chance Adams also won their race with a time of 46.23 seconds and Gibson Lockhart won the 110 hurdles with a personal-best time of 19.92 seconds.

Also for the boys, Adams was second in the 100 and McPhee was third, Richard Role was second in the 800 and Joshua Sjostrom was third, Richard Babcock was 110 hurdles, Lane Sapa was third in the 300 hurdles, Tyler Langton was second in the discus and Allec Knapton was third, Russell Albin was second in the pole vault while Jaxon Heinz was third and Adams was second in the long jump and triple jump.

The Wildkats finished first in three events, were second four times and also took third four times to pick up 114 team points to hold off Libby’s 102.

Lara Erickson and Kiera Brown had the top individual finishes for the Kats as Erickson won the 1,600 with a personal-best time of 5:37.70 while Brown won the shot put with a personal-best toss of 35 feet, 3 inches. The 1600 relay team of Cheyanne Johnston-Heinz, Alexis Purcell, Rebekah Walker and Hannah Sempf also won their race with a time of 4:41.13.

Also for the Kats, Johnston-Heinz and Walker both set personal bests in the 100 hurdles to finish second and third respectively and Walker also set a personal best in the 300 hurdles to finish third. Madysen Horner was third in the javelin, Stella Bistodeau was second in the high jump, Purcell and Kate Hatfield were second and third in the pole vault respectively and Paige Burger took third in the triple jump.

The Cats were back in action in Whitefish for the ARM Meet Saturday, where the boys picked up 87 points to finishe third behind Glacier’s 117 and Whitefish’s 92.

Pletcher and Greene had the top finishes for the Cats, with Pletcher winning the 300 hurdles with a time of 43.58 seconds and Greene winning the discus with a throw of 135 feet, 3 inches. Pletcher was also second in the 110 hurdles. Also for the Cats, Aidan Jarvis was second in the 3,200 while Umbriaco was third.

Morgan was second in the 200 and third in the javelin, Henjum was third in the 100 and 200 and the 400-meter relay team of Morgan, Henjum, Pletcher and Clewien was second.

The Wildkats finished with 66.5 points for finish fourth as Flora Jarvis took first in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best time of 50.63 seconds and was also third in the 100 hurdles race. Street won the javelin with a toss of 127 feet, 6 inches and was also third in the shot put. Purcell was the only other Wildkat to pick up a top-three finish, coming in second in the pole vault by clearing 8 feet, 6 inches.

Columbia Falls hosted Whitefish for a dual meet Tuesday and will be in Kalispell for the Archie Roe Meet Saturday.
