A Bob Marshall Wilderness outfitter is offering a free excursion to a mother and friend or family member for Mother’s Day.

Dropstone Outfitters based out of Choteau is giving away two spots for a wilderness excursion Sept. 2-8 in the gorgeous Birch Creek area of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

Dropstone is the only wholly woman-owned outfitting business working the Bob Marshall, notes co-owner Maggie Carr. Carr owns the company along with Yve Bardwell. They purchased the company from Bill and Polly Cunningham in 2013.

The company specializes in supported hike trips. While most outfitters guide clients exclusively on horseback, Dropstone clients generally hike to their destinations with light backpacks and Dropstone hauls in all the gear for camp and provides catered meals.

Hikers explore the region on foot, traveling 8 to 12 miles a day.

Carr said they got the idea as a way to honor moms and the women in their lives. Some of the best trips they’ve guided in the Bob have been with women, she noted.

Nominees should be in good physical condition. Nominations will be taken until May 11.
