A pair of former standout Wildkat basketball players are making waves at the college level as Sydney Hovde and Peyton Kehr recently picked up conference honors at Montana State University-Northern in Havre as the team went 13-18 this season.

A sophomore forward, Hovde was named the Frontier Conference Newcomer of the Year after averaging 10.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest. Hovde scored 15 or more points seven times this season, including a season-high 22 against Westmont Nov. 17, and also recorded six double-doubles with points and rebounds and led the team in blocks with 18. Her season-high in rebounds came against Benedictine University at Mesa Dec. 19, when she pulled down 14 boards. One of her best games of the season came against the Oklahoma School of Science and Arts Dec. 20, when she finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds while going 11-11 at the free throw line.

Hovde played her freshman season at North Idaho College, where she averaged 10.4 points and 9.1 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Kehr was named Honorable Mention All-Frontier Conference after averaging a team-high 12.2 points (seventh in the conference) and was the conference’s best three-point shooter at 42.3 percent.

Kehr scored 20 or more five times this season, including a season-high 25 points against Yellowstone Christian Dec. 4.

The two players were teammates on the 2017 Wildkat team that defeated Hardin to win the school’s second state title.
