Glacier International Airport to host rare WWII aircraft
Glacier International Airport will play host to five rare aircraft July 3-5 as the Wings of Freedom Tour will display three World War II bombers and two fighters.
Presented by the Collings Foundation, the Wings of Freedom Tour brings history to life by traveling across the nation in honor of the freedom their aircraft helped preserve.
The planes coming to Kalispell include two heavy bombers, the B-17 Flying Fortress “Nine O Nine,” and B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft.”
There will also be a medium bomber, the B-25 Mitchell “Tondelayo.” The tour will also be bringing two fighters, the P-51 Mustang “Toulouse Nuts” and P-40 Warhawk “Jaws.”
“We’re pleased to provide a venue for the Wings of Freedom Tour,” Airport Director Rob Ratkowski said. “These rare planes bring a rich part of aviation history to residents and visitors of the Flathead Valley.”
The Wings of Freedom Tour will be held at the ramp at Gate 7, which can be accessed a half-mile north of the Airport entrance on U.S. Highway 2 with parking available at Gate 7.
Visitors are invited to explore the exterior and interior of these historical aircrafts.
The fee is $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Ground tours are available: Wednesday, July 3 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, July 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, July 5 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
