North Fork meetings, tour, on tap

From cold, nasty weather to more summer-like conditions. I love it! The weather has been great. The grass is green. Wildflowers are blooming. The threat of flooding seems insignificant.

The county has graded the road. We are obviously seeing the approach of another great North Fork summer.

Of course, a few of us still complain. Frost boils on Vance Hill and Holcomb Meadow irritate some, but I just look at them as speed bumps that slow speeding vehicles. Biggest irritation, to me, is the growing population of mosquitoes – their whining is almost as bad as anything humans can produce and their bite is worse.

As long as we have great summer weather and a few little things to complain about, life is good.

Sunday, June 9 is the first big meeting day of the summer. The Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. to talk about land use issues, followed by an educational presentation at 7 p.m. by Jim Williams and Tim Manley of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Jim will talk about mountain lions and Tim will update us on North Fork bears. All of these meetings are at Sondreson Hall and everyone – members and non-members – are invited. Everyone is asked to bring a snack to share after the meetings.

On Wednesday, June 12, Vernon and Karina Petty will host a historical tour of the Fisher/Mahoney homesteads. The tour will start at 525 Moose Creek Road at 4 p.m. Frank Fisher was shot and killed in 1932. Learn the details on the tour and walk portions of the original Moose Creek Road and explore the old homestead remains.

Church services began last Sunday and will continue every Sunday through August conducted by Don Sullivan. Services begin at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday and are followed by a social hour. Bring a snack to share.

In addition, Wernicks’s Garden Market is every Wednesday at noon and there are hikes, floats, bike rides, square dances, card parties and more nearly every week. Consult your spring newsletter for the complete social calendar for exact times and places. The calendar is also posted at the Polebridge Community Hall.

Saddest events are the Sue Sullivan memorial at 2 p.m. July 14 at Sondreson Hall and the Tom Sliuter memorial on June 21 at 1 p.m. Please come by and share stories, pictures and memories of our departed friends.

All in all, another fun-filled and action-packed summer on the North Fork with just a little sadness and argument to spice things up.
