The new owners of the Moose Creek Resort are living their dream.

After years of consideration, Jason and Katie Holmes decided to take the plunge and purchase the SanSuzEd in May 2018. The couple and their three sons came up from Oklahoma and got to work right away, fixing up the old RV park, campground and bed and breakfast and rebranding it the Moose Creek Resort.

“Katie and I had talked about owning something like this for 15 years. It has been our dream. We came up here to visit a few years ago and we just fell in love with this whole area. We were blown away by it,” Jason said. “It was a lot of work, but we knew it was going to be a lot of work and that is one of the things I like about it.”

Both Jason and Katie worked in the medical field in Oklahoma; Jason as an athletic trainer at an orthopedic hospital and Katie as a outpatient coding manager, but both decided they needed a change of pace for their summer months. The two began looking for a place to buy near Glacier National Park, and it didn’t take long until they found just what they wanted.

“We started cold calling places and this was the second one we called,” Jason said. “It was really just a stroke of luck. The rest is history, as they say. We just kind of burned out on it. We got tired of dreaming about things and decided to just make the leap and go for it. We haven’t looked back since.”

Located on the north side of Highway 2 between Coram and West Glacier, the property was originally developed in the 1960s. Since taking over the property last summer, the Holmes’s have remodeled the bed and breakfast, updated the kitchen and added some landscaping and flowers.

Jason says there is much more to be done, but he is happy to do it.

“It’s not like a job to me, it’s more of the things I just enjoy doing. I get to talk with people all day and meet people from all over the world. We get to hear people’s stories,” he said. “We have a lot of things planned for the future, but we have plenty of things going on right now to keep us busy.”

One thing that hasn’t changed has been the baked goods the resort offers, including cinnamon rolls and fresh huckleberry pies, among others.

Now in their second summer running the Moose Creek Resort, Jason and Katie say they are starting to get things figured out.

“This summer has been so much better. At least now we somewhat of an idea of what we are doing. We’ve really made it our own now and gotten into a good routine,” Katie said. “Campers these days have much higher expectations than they used to and we are trying to keep up with those expectations.”
