Wildkats fall in overtime at Browning, boys lose at home
A heroic Wildkat comeback come up just short in Browning Thursday as Columbia Falls lost to the Lady Indians in overtime, 70-67.
Down by 20 with seven minutes to play in regulation, the Wildkats used a 23-3 run to force overtime. The Kats led 61-60 with 5.4 second to play, but Trista Cowan’s fifth foul put the Lady Indians on the free throw line, where they made one of two to send the game into overtime.
In the extra period, Ryley Kehr put the Kats up early with a jumper and later gave C-Falls a 66-63 lead with a three, but 11 free throws by the Lady Indians was too much for the Kats to overcome. LaKia Hill had a chance to tie the game with a three from the top of the key in the closing seconds of overtime, but the shot bounced off the rim and Browning held on for the win.
Kehr led the Wildkat attack with 20 points while Hill added 14, Josie Windauer scored 11, Cowan had eight, Maddie Robison scored seven, Hannah Schweikert had five points and Graceanne Sevesind scored two points.
In freshman action, the Wildkats led for most of the game, but also fell in overtime, 58-61. The junior varsity girls fell behind by as many as 15, but fought their way back into the game before falling, 50-42.
In varsity boys action at home, the Wildcats fell to the Indians, 67-39. The Cats fell behind 22-9 after one quarter and trailed 42-18 at the half.
Dillon Wanner and Dillon Shipp each scored eight to lead the Cats’ scoring attack while Zack Pletcher added seven, Danny Henjum and Sam Hovde each scored five, Logan Bechtel added three, William Dyon scored two and Drew Morgan had one point.
The freshmen won their game 68-48 and the junior varsity fell, 58-54.
The boys and girls will be back in action Saturday as they boys travel to Hamilton while the girls play at home.
