History society will feature Flint; elects new officers

The Columbia Falls Historical Society has elected new officers for 2019. Serving as president will be Peg Sorensen. Other officers are Dorothy Downen, vice-president, Lois Smith, secretary, and Steve Skyberg, treasurer.
The winners of the raffle drawn at Night of Lights are also announced. The Henry Golden Boy rifle was won by Tom Cobb and the scabbard was won by Michele Snyder. Carter Harvey drew the names.
The club meets the third Thursday of each month at the North Valley Community Center on Nucleus Avenue in Columbia Falls. Anyone interested in local history is encouraged to attend the meetings, which often feature a guest speaker talking on a local topic of history.
Next meeting is Thursday, Jan . 17, and will begin at 6 p.m. with a chili feed. A program by Fred Flint on the history of cross-cut saws will follow. Flint will explore the history of cross-cut saws in the forestry industry and also explain the various methods used to sharpen them.
The meeting is open to the public . There is no charge for the chili feed but donations are always welcome.
