The Wildcats fourth-quarter comeback bid came up just short against the Pirates Thursday as Columbia Falls fell to Polson in the opening round of the Northwest A Distirct Tournament in Whitefish, 58-49.

Down by 13 with less than five minutes to play, the Wildcats used a 9-0 run to cut the Polson lead to four on a Sam Hovde basket with just under to minutes to play, but Polson scored the final five points of the contest to earn the victory.

Drew Morgan and Dillon Shipp each scored 11 to lead the Wildcat effort while Logan Bechtel and Hovde each added nine. Danny Henjum had seven points and Dillon Wanner and Zack Pletcher each scored one.

With the loss, the Cats will take on the loser between Browning and Libby Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
