Arctic blast will greet Cabin Fever Days, Weather Service says

Folks heading out to Cabin Fever Days events this weekend better bundle up.
The National Weather Service is calling for 6 to 10 inches of snow by Saturday in the Canyon, with another arctic cold front blasting in Friday night. High temperatures on Saturday are expected to be about zero degrees, with wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph.
Sunday will calm a bit with winds in the 5 to 10 mph range, but the high is expected to be about 8 degrees. Not great, but much better than Saturday.
“Sunday is the way better day,” meteorologist LeAnn Allegretto said.
She said the snow should come before the wind Friday night, but with high winds, it will be blowing around, making travel difficult.
The highest amounts of snow are expected for the Jewel Basin and Swan Range.
A second surge of moisture is expected Sunday into Monday, but that’s expected to stay south into Idaho and the Missoula area.
The temperatures next week won’t moderate much, with highs in the teens and 20s by Wednesday and lows in the single digits to below zero, depending on location.
The Bar Stool races, the main draw for Cabin Fever Days are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with finals at 3 p.m. Sunday.
