Angel Theater to host Valentine's event next week
The LaSalle Angel Theater will play host to “Three Nights of Love,” a new show devised and directed by Jesse DeVine, Feb. 14-16.
The eclectic show features published and unpublished original poems, love letters and music as well as a number of show tunes as it explores the many different facets of love.
“We have a little bit of everything. From a letter written by Beethoven to a love letter written during the Civil War to something written by someone right down the road,” DeVine said. “It is a celebration of the many different kinds of love, not just romantic love.”
More than 20 local artists and performers auditioned for the show, with the nine final selections including pianist Kelly Garber and cellist Lee Zimmerman.
“I am very happy with the amazing individuals that came in and tried out for us. We have a phenomenal pianist, some very good singers and an amazing cellist,” DeVine said. “I just took stock of the talent we had available and built the show around them.”
Located just off Highway 2 in LaSalle, the small Angel Theater was once the local Grange building, making for a small and intimate setting for shows and performances.
“There is a lot of heart behind this theater. We are truly trying to do something different that is not being done anywhere else in the valley. We are still experimenting to figure out what works and what doesn’t, but right now we are trying to select performance pieces where we can always break the fourth wall,” DeVine said. “We want the audience to be engaged and have fun as we play to the intimacy of this theater.”
There will be a reception featuring light fare before each performance, beginning at 6:30 each evening, followed by the main performance at 7 p.m. The show consists of two acts with an intermission.

“I am hoping this will be a heartwarming piece that is truly given from an authentic place and I hope will be received from an authentic place,” DeVine said. “It’s simple, but it is also profound.”
