Gary Walter Ray

Gary Walter Ray, 75, of Chubbuck, Idaho passed away Tuesday Dec. 11, 2019 in Pocatello, Idaho of complications related to congestive heart failure.

Born June 27, 1944 at Columbus Hospital in Great Falls to Cloy C Ray and Alice Midge. He had one sister who passed away before birth. Gary was raised by Lester and Bernice Anderson, after his mother Alice Midge passed away when he was 1 year and 20 days old.

Gary considered the Andersons as his family which included siblings: Richard Dale Anderson, Joann Anderson Fish, Shirley (Twig) Anderson Midboa, Patricia Anderson Mullen, Jim “Dennis” (Mahoney) B Anderson (Sequim, WA) and Roxy Anderson McMaster (Columbia Falls,).

He married Judy Nutzman in March of 1965, three days before going to Vietnam. They later divorced in June of 1971.

Gary moved to Pocatello in April of 1972 where he met and eventually married Dorene Kay Young on March 10, 1973. He raised Dorene’s three children as his own: son, Richard Noel Marshall; daughter Tina Kay (Marshall) Call, and daughter Micheline Kelly (Marshall) Dennis. Together, Gary and Dorene had one son, JT Ray.

Gary went to work at JR Simplot’s Don Plant in May of 1972. Gary met many people while employed with JR Simplot who became lifelong friends. Gary retired from JR Simplot in June 2006 to enjoy time camping and being with his grandchildren.

Gary enjoyed coaching little league sports and coached many of son’s Richard and JT’s teams and later his Grandson Lane Marshall’s teams. He played softball with friends and family which included his son Richard Marshall. Gary enjoyed bowling and was on leagues with Dorene, Richard and JT. He had the chance to bowl at the National Tournaments in Salt Lake City and Billings.

Gary is survived by his wife Dorene, his son Richard and wife Angela Jensen; daughter Tina Call and husband Kevin Call; daughter Micheline Dennis and fiancée Kevin Bennett; son JT Ray and wife Stephanie Ray; grandchildren Lane Noel Marshall, Daniel Tyler Marshall, Kacey Dennis, Cassie K Marshall and Jessica T Ray.

Gary is preceded in death by Cloy C Ray and Alice Midge, Lester and Bernice Anderson, Richard Dale Anderson, Joann Anderson Fish, Shirley (Twig) Anderson Midboa and Patricia Anderson Mullen.

Funeral Services were held at Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck, Idaho on Monday, Dec. 16, 2019.
