Columbia Falls Swim Team takes fourth at state meet

The Columbia Falls Swim Team finished up the season with a fourth place finish at the state meet in Sidney Aug. 3-4 as the team finished first in eight races.

Catherine Opalka was the top swimmer for Columbia Falls at the meeting, earning three individual first place medals and another as part of the girls 8 and Under 100 freestyle relay team.

Alanis Petersen picked up a pair of individual firsts in the girls 9-10 division, winning the 100 individual medley and the 50 butterfly. Petersen was also second in the 100 Freestyle.

The boys 13-14 relay team of Logan Niles, Tristan Crane, Thane Borgen and Adam Schrader won both the 200 freestyle and 200 medley races while the girls 8 and under 100 freestyle relay team of Opalka, Morgan Talbot, Payson Scribner and Annika Petersen also won its race.

The team also earned two second place finishes and was third in three races.

Along with Alanis Petersen’s second place finish in the 100 freestyle, the 11-12 girls relay team of Camille Cronk, Sadie Cheff, Campbell Fox and Avery Role took second in the 200 medley relay and third in the 200 freestyle while Schrader was third in the 13-14 boys 200 individual medley. The boys 8 and under 100 freestyle relay team of Liam Swank, Fjord Borgen, Talon Borgen and Javen Kuntz took third.
