Wildcat netters busy against Glacier, Flathead and Whitefish

The Columbia Falls tennis teams had another busy week, taking on Glacier and Flathead high schools at FVCC Tuesday before taking on Whitefish Saturday.

The top three Cats’ singles players had strong showings against Glacier Tuesday as John Gilk defeated Ryan Kelly (6-1, 6-1), Niels Getts took down Kamren Barkus (6-4, 7-6 3) and Camryn Lingle beat Alex Galloway (6-1, 6-2). The Cats wound up dropping the overall match 5-3 as Colton Byrd fell to Chris Skelton and all four doubles teams came up short in their matches.

The Wildkats wound up with a 4-4 tie against Glacier as Hannah Schweikert defeated Maggie Rudback (6-0, 6-0), Katy Garate beat Nina Friedman (6-3, 7-5), Maria Vizay-Vicentin defeated Mariah Dickey (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) and Julia Sowerine took down Sydney Pepe (5-7, 6-2, 6-2).

The boys were swept 8-0 by Flathead later on Tuesday while the girls fell 5-3. Schweikert, Garate and Vizcay-Vicentin each picked up wins in the match.

Both teams fell to Whitefish 6-1 Saturday as Trey Perkins defeated Jack Robertson (6-4, 6-1) for the boys’ lone win while Vizcay-Vicentin took down Stacia Tremper (6-3, 6-3) for the only win for the Kats.

Both teams will be at Polson Thursday before hosting the Pirates Tuesday.
