Park plows near Haystack Creek, free shuttle starts on Mother's Day

Glacier National Park plow crews continue progress toward Logan Pass, with crews on the west side in the Haystack Creek area on the west side, about five miles from Logan Pass.
Glacier reminds visitors that a pavement preservation project is scheduled to start on May 1, which means hiker-biker restrictions on the road when crews are working.
It could also result in vehicle traffic delays on the highway as well. The project will run into early summer and then start up again this fall on the Sun Road and several other park roads.
Having said that, the free bike shuttle, which runs from the Apgar Visitor Center to the vehicle road closure on the west side, will start on Mother’s Day this year, said park spokeswoman Lauren Alley.
The shuttle allows more folks to enjoy hiking and biking the road, as upper parking lots on the highway fill up.
As of presstime, most Park secondary roads remained closed to vehicles, but are open to hiking and biking. That includes the Two Medicine and Many Glacier roads.
Snow is still prevalent in higher elevations of the parks. April has been a cool and wet month and the snowpack is still about 90 percent of average. The weekend weather is calling for more rain and snow in the Park. Highs on Sunday will be in the low 40s and 30s, depending on elevation.
