Cats win Iceberg meet, Kats a close second

Both Columbia Falls track teams had strong showings last week as the boys finished second at the Sapphire Twilight meet in Corvallis Thursday before winning their home Iceberg Invitational Saturday. The girls were second in Corvallis and missed winning the Iceberg meet by half a point.

The Wildcats were winners in six events in Corvallis Thursday as they accumulated 160 points to narrowly beat out the host team by four to earn first overall. The Cats were also second in six events and finished third in three more.

Senior Kaedan Clewien dominated the short races for the Cats, winning both the 100 and 200, while Zack Pletcher did the same in the hurdles, winning the 110 and 300-meter races.

Drew Morgan was the winner in the 400-meter run and was also a member of the winning 400-meter relay squad, along with Pletcher, Clewien and Danny Henjum.

The Wilkats won two events on their way to a second-place finish, picking up 133 points to finish behind Corvallis’s 218.5. The Kats were also second in five events and finished third in four more.

Josie Windauer set a new personal record to win the 400-meter run, finishing in 1:00.22. The time was good enough to qualify her for the state meet in May.

Angellica Street continued her dominance of the javelin, winning by more than 33 feet with a toss of 138 feet, 9 inches.

The Wildcats picked up wins in seven events at their home meet Saturday, finishing with 220 points to easily outpace second-place Whitefish’s 145.

Morgan and Pletcher both had two first-place individual finishes on the day as Morgan won the javelin and 200 while Pletcher again won both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles.

Morgan’s time of 22.80 in the 200 was fast enough to qualify him for state in the event.

Henjum and Clewien also both qualified for state in the 200, finishing second and third, respectively.

Parker Green won the discus with a toss of 136 feet, 4 inches while the 400 relay team of Morgan, Pletcher, Clewien and Henjum won their event, as did the 1,600 relay team of Henjum, Pletcher, Aidan Jarvis and Morgan.

The Wildkats won first in four events to finish with 184.5 points, just half a point behind winner Whitefish.

Windauer won the pole vault and qualified for state by clearing 9 feet, 6 inches while Kiera Brown won the discus and Street won the javelin. The 1,600 relay team of Alexis Green, Genevieve Delorme, Flora Jarvis and Windauer also won first with a time of 4:19.07.

Both teams will be in Whitefish Saturday for the ARM meet.
