Track teams open season in Frenchtown

Three Columbia Falls track athletes qualified for state at the opening meet of the season over the weekend as the girls finished seventh and boys were ninth at the Frenchtown Invitational.

Angellica Street picked up right where she left off last year with the javelin, opening the defense of her 2018 state title with a throw of 149 feet, 4 inches to easily take first place.

The toss was almost two feet further than her state-winning throw from last season and was the fifth furthest throw since the MHSA adoped the current javelin design in 2002.

Street was also third in the shot put with a toss of 33 feet, 1 inch.

Josie Windauer also had a strong perfomance Saturday, qualifying for state in the 400 after winning the event with a time of 1:00.32. Windauer was also second in the pole vault at 9 feet and fifth in the 100 with a time of 13.63 seconds.

Genevieve Delorme was fifth in the 800 and Kiera Brown took sixth in the shot put.

Drew Morgan led the way for the boys, finishing second and qualifying for state in the javelin with a toss of 178 feet, 5 inches. Morgan was also second in the 100 at 11.60 seconds and third in the 400 at 53.28 seconds.

Zack Pletcher was thid in the 300 hurdles at 42.76 seconds while Danny Henjum was sixth in the 100, Richard Role was sixth in the 800, Seth Umbrico earned sixth in the 3,200 and Russell Albin was sixth in the pole vault.

The Columbia Falls teams will be in Missoula Saturday.
