Wildcats blow out Libby for homecoming win
Columbia Falls running back Colten McPhee reached the end zone six times Friday evening as the Wildcats celebrated Homecoming with a lopsided 62-15 victory over the Libby Loggers.
Four of McPhee’s scores came on the ground as he amassed 138 yards on just 14 carries while also catching a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Drew Morgan, one for 21 yards and the other for 17. It was the second time McPhee has rushed for more than 100 yards in a game this season.
Morgan finished the night with 188 passing yards and four touchdowns, including two to Logan Bechtel from 56 and 49 yards out. The other scoring pass was a 22-yard strike to Parker Greene in the first quarter.
Kicker August Emond also had a busy night, connecting on eight of nine extra-point attempts for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats took full advantage of three Libby turnovers — two fumbles and an interception in the first half. McPhee ran for three touchdowns in the first quarter alone and the Cats were up 34-7 with 1:09 remaining in the first.
McPhee added another touchdown with 5:21 left in the first half.
Logan Bechtel had a 44 yard touchdown reception with 10:21 in the second quarter and Parker Greene had a 23-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter.
Libby at times was able to move the ball against the Cats, and put together a nice touchdown drive with 6:26 left in the first quarter, scoring on a 28-yard pass from quarterback Jeff Offenbecher to Jay Beagle to cut the Wildcat lead to 13-7. But they couldn’t hold onto the ball and their defense had no answer for McPhee, who had excellent blocking at the line and then ran over the Libby secondary.
The Cats will be on the road this week as they take on the Indians in Browning.
